“I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Dad Central Consulting and they sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
It’s that time of year again where orange and black seems to be the predominant color you’ll see around town. Halloween hasn’t ever been a really big deal for me. Growing up as a preacher’s kid you can imagine there were obvious reasons why the holiday was downplayed a bit.
Holidays in general haven’t meant much to me for a number of years though. The biggest value I really see in most holidays is another opportunity to spend some time with family and friends.
Getting back to Halloween, we still take our kids trick-or-treating, or we have up to this point. I think they may be getting little too old for it, so we’ll see how this year goes. I suggested to my kids the other day in the car that it would be far simpler for us to just take them to the store and let them purchase three bags each of their favorite candy. Mine would probably be Reese’s Cups.
This past weekend we joined a family to celebrate a birthday for one of their kids and while we were there we had a pumpkin carving contest. My daughter did pretty well (her pumpkin is shown in this post). She did most of the work, I just cleaned up some edges and worked on some of the more intricate portions.
If I don’t get too excited about Halloween, the other end of the spectrum is Thanksgiving and Christmas, not for the holiday itself, but the extended opportunity to share time with family.
