So, the allure of having the perfect season is gone. The San Diego Chargers ended my Colt’s winning season on Sunday. As I was speaking to friends last night, I can’t say I’m glad they lost, but part of me is relieved.
There definitely won’t be anymore media hoopla over asking Coach Dungy what his strategy is going to be for the next two games. I just hope we keep the rhythm through the upcoming two games and our first round bye in the play-offs. Now we can let some of our injured guys rest and recuperate and be ready for the play-offs.
I’m a little upset, because like the guys on SportsCenter said, not many people remember who won the Super Bowl 10 years ago, but everyone remembers the team that had the unbeaten, perfect season! That’s a little bit of a letdown, and honestly, I wish they’d done it just to shut-up some of the members of ’72 Dolphins. They had a great achievement and should be proud of it, but they should also be congratulatory of other teams that have a chance to make the same run.
I think one of the reasons we lost Sunday though is because we went into the game thinking it didn’t matter. We didn’t have our game faces on. I’ll give San Diego credit, they came at us hard in the 1st half, but we just didn’t have our game faces on. It meant everything to San Diego and nothing to us, it showed in the game.
The other bummer about the game is I couldn’t really enjoy it. I had TiVo’d it, and got home and started watching it at 3:45pm. I basically watched the entire game in 1 hour and 15 minutes. I had to be at church at 5:00pm for our last performance of our Christmas drama. The kicker!? I lost the last 5 minutes of the game since it went past 4:00pm. I was expecting us to march down the field at 19-17, get within Vanderjagt’s field goal range and kick one for a 20-19 win! But that didn’t happen.
I think one of the most impressive stats before yesterday’s game? The Colts had not trailed in 444:03 of game play! Say what you want, but that’s pretty impressive!
