It’s been an interesting and fun NFL season so far this year hasn’t it? I’ve been active on a couple of different Fantasy Football teams.
Quarterbacks and other players have been going down faster than stock prices and retirement savings this year. Some unexpected teams have risen to the occasion like the Tennessee Titans and the Miami Dolphins have even surprised us with their season. . Defending Super Bowl Champion NY Giants continue to excel on the field even when players like Plaxico can’t seem to keep his gun under control. It also turns out that The Patriots have more going for them than just Tom Brady as they’ve had a respectable season with Matt Cassel at the QB spot.
The other fun part of this season for me has been that my 9 year old son has become quite the football (and sports in general) fan. He’s got his own fantasy team that he knows how to manage and adjust his team as needed. Even my wife has gotten in the fantasy football fun and joined a girl’s league with a bunch of her friends.
The question my son keeps wondering though is that now that nobody is perfect, will there be a team that remains perfect losers through the season? Can Detroit pull off a win at all this year? I really don’t think they’ve got much hope against the Vikings, Colts, Saints or Packers to round out their season. That will make the jersey above turn into somewhat of a collector’s item don’t you think?
As a lifelong Lions fan, the only thing I'm rooting for now is for them NOT to win. Not only do I want the #1 pick in the draft, and not only am I taking some perverse pleasure in how horrible they are, but their owner does not have a clue. In 2005 he was approached by the NFL with an offer to assist in searching for a replacement GM for Matt Millen, whom it was clear was about to be fired based on his performance. Instead, to spite the NFL, William Ford extended Millen's contract for 5 more years. Only this year, when his son stood up to him, did the old man relent and fire Millen. If the Lions finish 0-16, the league will be concerned about the franchise enough to force him to accept their help in hiring a competent GM. At least, that's what I'm pinning my hopes on.
