I’ve been experiencing something lately that’s really starting to irritate me on Facebook. There’s been something going on where I’m getting notified that people are leaving comments on photos of me, when in fact they haven’t.

Has this been happening to you as well?

At first I was just irritated that people were installing and using some other application on Facebook to leave comments on photos. Why? Just use the default photo functionality within Facebook. When I questioned a couple of people, they said they didn’t leave any comment at all.

This happened the first time a few weeks back. It’s started happening again with a different "app" being the culprit. It also appears I’ve had more friends experiencing some hacking experiences on their accounts where messages are being sent on their behalf that they’re not sending. Usually the link is to what appears to be a video or some other file that ends up having a malicious payload.

All of this makes me wonder if the security mechanisms for the walled garden of Facebook are starting to crumble a little bit. It would seem that for all the protections Facebook puts in place of things not working on Facebook unless they say, there’s a lot of unscrupulous behavior that keeps popping up.

What do you think? Could this be the beginning of a downward trend in Facebook growth and overall usage? It’s still huge obviously, but if these walls start crumbling like I think they are, how much trust could be lost quickly.
