There’s an effort underway for the planet of Hoth to host the 2014 Winter Olympiad. That’s right, Hoth, the planet made most famous by a giant battle in the 5th installment of the STAR WARS epic.
I’m sure you’ve guessed that the idea is a little “out there” to excuse the pun, but the intent is good. The site owner/designer, Shane, setup the site to try and promote and expand the interest in the Olympic Games. We just finished the the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy, and the crowd support wasn’t too much to be proud of so to speak.
I’m all for any efforts to increase the interest in the Olympic Games. I remember watching the Olympics as a family growing up and enjoying the “thrill of victory” and “agony of defeat”. My blog network, b5media, also supported an Olympic blog which I had a few posts on as well.
I’m not completely sure, but I wonder if some of the challenges with people supporting the Olympics more is that there’s not that feeling of competition that there used to be. Do people not support their country’s atheletes because it’s becoming a more global community. Not that it’s a bad thing, I’m just wondering.
I don't watch the olympics, and never really have.
I think it's boring as anything and there is so much hype over people running fast and chucking stuff. Really, I just don't care.
And I hate TV.
