Xobni-LinkedIn I’ve written about Xobni, the 3rd party Outlook search plug-in, a few different times on the this here website (here, here, and here). They’ve now released version 1.4 and have addressed some speed issues that a number of people mentioned in comments on my post.

The other nice thing they’ve added is the ability to immediately show LinkedIn profile information for anyone you receive an e-mail from. VERY NICE! I’ve already used it to connect with a few more people on the LinkedIn site that I didn’t realize were users.

One more feature worth mentioning is that you can now specifically tell Xobni what folders and files to keep under review for searching purposes later.

There you go, in case you hadn’t heard enough from me about Xobni, now there’s more. I’ve got a number invites available if you’re interested. Just let me know in the comments and I’ll send an email to the e-mail address you use for your comment.

Photrade

photrade

I’m always on the look-out for new places to find some stock photography and other images to potentially use on some website for clients or just  get some inspiration for creating a completely new graphical element for design.

Photrade is a new website that’s currently available by invite only so I haven’t been able to really get into the site and see what it’s all about. However, after briefly browsing through their catalog it looks like they’ve got some great content.

Photrade is where photographers reclaim ownership of their photos.

Photraders decide how, when, where and at what cost their photos are used online. We provide unprecedented protection for photos and offer a free photo marketplace where photographers can sell stock, prints and merchandise or use our Adcosystem where photographers get paid for every view of their photo, anywhere on the internet.

Through Photrade, publications and blogs can access a fast-growing library of legally licensed, ad-supported photos.

Reclaim your photos, start photrading.

If anyone out there has already been using Photrade, let us know what you think. If you’ve got an invite code, just let me know as I’d love to get in there and really see what it’s all about from the inside.

New E-mail Domains from Yahoo!

On June - 30 - 2008 Comments Off

new-yahoo-mail

One of the earliest e-mail addresses I had was a Yahoo! Mail address and it’s been the one I’ve used almost exclusively for friends and family to contact me and stay in touch.

You can now add a couple more free e-mail domains to those that you can manage from the familiar Yahoo! Mail interface:  @ymail.com and @rocketmail.com

If you’re interested in adding another e-mail address to your contact information and still use the Yahoo! e-mail interface then just go sign-up for one of these new addresses now.

What I’m wanting them to do is let me manage multiple Yahoo! e-mail addresses from one login. Someone let me know when you’re able to do that.

I received this via e-mail this morning and thought they were pretty funny. I’d read many of these in the past but there were a couple of new ones that made me smile.

NICKNAMES

  • If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Kate and Sarah.
  • If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla and Four-eyes.

EATING OUT

  • When the bill arrives, Mike, Dave and John will each throw in $20, even though it’s only for $32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back.
  • When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

MONEY

  • A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs.
  • A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn’t need but it’s on sale.

BATHROOMS

  • A man has six items in his bathroom: toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel.
  • The average number of items in the typical woman’s bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these items.

ARGUMENTS

  • A woman has the last word in any argument.
  • Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

CATS

  • Women love cats.
  • Men say they love cats, but when women aren’t looking, men kick cats.

FUTURE

  • A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
  • A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

SUCCESS

  • A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
  • A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

MARRIAGE

  • A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn’t.
  • A man marries a woman expecting that she won’t change, but she does.

DRESSING UP

  • A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail.
  • A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.

NATURAL

  • Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.
  • Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

OFFSPRING

  • Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dental appointments and romances, best friends, favorite foods, secret fears hopes and dreams.
  • A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY FROM ALL THIS

  • A married man should forget his mistakes.
  • There’s no use in two people remembering the same thing!

windows-mobile-total-access

The Windows Mobile website has undertaken a little bit (well, more like quite a bit) of an overhaul. Along with looking different and a new name “TotalAccess” though I couldn’t find a lot of “new” features or offerings that weren’t there before.

I’m wondering if anything with “Access” in the name works for Microsoft though. I immediately thought of Microsoft Office Access program, but it has nothing to do with that.

The one thing I was reminded of while perusing the site though was how much I’d really like to upgrade my PPC-6700 to the new Sprint Mogul. That would be really nice.

The other update I did notice was the option to install Silverlight for the site, which I ended up doing because there was a newer version of the application that I hadn’t installed yet. I restarted my browser (Firefox) and went back to the Windows Mobile TotalAccess site and was still prompted to download it and install? Do what? I just did that!

Off the Cloud

I’m going back to the Dark Ages for a couple of days and will be with no computer and probably no cell phone and Internet access. Keep me in your prayers. I could go into a technology depravity induced coma.

If you don’t hear from my by Monday morning…..

…. just wait longer.

microsoft-office-smith-family

Microsoft has teamed with with The Smith Family Learning for Life Program to help raise money for education of Australia’s children.

Microsoft will donate $1 for ever time the video is shown, so all you need to do is watch the video yourself and sit back and enjoy the notion that you just gave some money to a worthy charity and it didn’t cost you a penny.

The video reminds you of some of the great features of Microsoft Office 2007, but for me personally they’re not the features I’d use the most. However, the video also seems to be focused for an audience of kids and families so they’re probably more of the features they would end up using.

AFI 10 Top 10 Movies

On June - 27 - 2008 Comments Off

afi-10-top-10

I’m a huge movie lover. I used to watch a lot more than I do now. Being single provided a lot more free-time and money to take advantage of staying up-to-date on all the latest releases.

The American Film Institute has put together their list of the Top 10 movies in ten different genres.

  • Animation
  • Romantic Comedy
  • Western
  • Sports
  • Mystery
  • Fantasy
  • Sci-Fi
  • Gangster
  • Courtroom Drama
  • Epic

Of those 100 movies I’ve only seen 48 of them. That’s a lot of great movies I need to be catching up on.

How many of the 100 have you seen? What are your favorites in each genre that didn’t make it into AFI list?

Let me know in the comments.

Wd40 Explosion – video powered by Metacafe

As you can tell from the video the can doesn’t just explode by itself. It’s on fire a bit already. Either way, pretty stupid kid, but I can imagine me trying something like this when I was a kid. I’m a bit of a pyro myself.

Don’t Play With Your Food

On June - 24 - 2008 Comments Off

This past Sunday I picked up my daughter from her class after church service and she had made a little necklace out of Fruit Loops cereal and a pipe cleaner. It then occurred to me, why do scold our kids for playing with their food when one of the first things they get to do as they learn arts & crafts is to play with their food?

Haven’t we all either made and/or received a piece of art that was made from some kind of breakfast cereal, macaroni or other pasta or even dried beans?

Are we sending mixed signals?
