I just received the confirmation phone call from AT&T that Comcast has released my home phone number to be transferred over to AT&T. This means that my scheduled install for April 8th should go without a hitch.
After having talked to some friends and read through some information on this website (thanks Zachflauaus), I’ve discovered that I may experience some limitations with enjoying multiple HD channels at once. I’m not sure this will be a huge issue, but I know there are plenty of times where I currently will record something in HD while I’m watching a different show in HD.
According to the website mentioned above, there should be dual HD streaming available in 2Q 2008. We’re in that now, but I doubt that will be available the first week of 2Q ‘08.
Either way, I can’t ditch Comcast quick enough to give this a try. I may go back to Comcast if I’m not happy with AT&T U-verse, but giving it a try will be a welcome change.
Anyone else out there using U-verse here in Indianapolis? What’s been your experience?

Jason,
On behalf of Comcast, I wanted to let you know that we are sorry to see you go. If you would like to share feedback with me regarding your Comcast experience, I would appreciate it. If you decide in the future to return to Comcast, please let me know.
Thank you!

Mr. Eliason, Wow! Thanks for finding my post and offering to hear out my complaints about Comcast. Initially my issues are unreliable service. I find it very humorous that Comcast advertises against DirectTV service by saying that don’t have weather issues and clearer picture, etc., etc. But we regularly experience pixelation through entire shows, loss of image and the Comcast DVR is horrible compared to TiVo. If U-verse hadn’t become available I was probably going to try and grab a new TiVo Series3 and try the CableCard route. It’s amazing to me though that I can get more with AT&T U-verse while paying less than I can get from Comcast after being a customer for the past 8 years. All the good prices are only available for “new” customers.
You will love Uverse! I was so happy to get rid of Comcast. The downsides of Uverse for us are: no local on the 8s on the Weather Channel and no MetroSports (we’re in Olathe, KS). But the quality of the picture is great, the service is great, the installation was great, the internet speed is great, the price is great, etc. etc. etc. The DVR is not as good as TiVo, but I’ve never seen another DVR that is. As much as I am a devotee of Tivo, I was willing to give it up for the cost reduction and the future promise of whole home DVR. We previously had two Tivos, but when whole home DVR is available, we won’t need any of them, so I just gave them up cold for now. It was tough at first, but I’m over it now.
To Frank, Jason is right! The cost in ratio to the quality of programming and service of Comcast is what drove me away. It seems like every month, another channel was moved to the digital tier, for which I would have to pay more than I feel is reasonable for television service. I always maintained I would stick with the expanded basic until it was down to just PBS and the Home Shopping Network. Now, forutnately, with Uverse I don’t have to. They continue to ADD channels and charge me the same price, not take channels away!
Nice blogsite! Reading that you will have U-Verse by now … did it go and how do you like it?? I just moved to Indy after having U-Verse for months and I hate going back to cable or DSl. I’m currently running both to see which is best in downtown Indy. I plan to go to the Blog event at IUPUI. Hoping to get some pointers on the design and tech end. I write like a fiend … just hope to find a spot where I might attract readers! Zimmiegirl 9th & Penn
It’s going well. Not being able to use/watch/record two HD streams at once is a bit of a hindrance. Also, need to call AT&T because I currently can’t have all 4 boxes turned on at the same time and get a signal. Whatever box is last displays a message about not being able to connect.
I have been a U-verse subscriber in the San Francisco bay area since November of 07′. I will preface by saying that I’m the type who will place a phone call on someone’s behalf if I feel that they have delivered exceptional service. However, based upon my experience with AT&T thus far, ‘kudos’ calls will be the least of my concerns.
I can honestly say that I have had more exhausting and frustrating issues with both the service and the customer support than anyone should reasonably be expected to deal with; The original sales rep placed the order incorrectly without applying HD service to my order (for my 62″ HDTV!) and it took three days to get HD running. Numerous outages for a variety of reason which are seldom well-explained, incompetence & lethargy in customer service, a grotesque lack of accountability whereby the person responsible for the issue at-hand is never the one on the phone with you! How about having a technician come to your home and, while resolving a simple issue, create another issue that is beyond his/her level of expertise! Functionality? My Comcast service delivered 4-HD channels along with the other digital channels. That meant that I could record on an HD channel and watch another simultaneously. U-verse delivers 1-HD channel (though more are ‘right around the corner!’) As an avid sports viewer, I really miss the ’slow motion’ button on my Comcast remote. There is no such function with U-verse. The channel directory can be more complex than the scematic for the Tokyo subway system and channel listings can change without notification.
At some point during every phone call with U-verse customer service, someone invariably states, “We do value you as a customer and thank you for using AT&T U-verse.” However, the actions of the network and the support team show that my satisfaction is far less important than the regularity with which I send payments. I have given U-verse the benefit of the doubt on a number of occasions. Instead, they often find new ways to add frustration to an already aggravating situation. The technology simply does not appear ready to deliver on the promises of the advertizing. This is very important for a prospective customer to understand. I have every intention of switching back to Comcast at this point. I’m not fond of actually sitting down and writing compliants so please consider that it took a lot to get me to this keyboard for this reason.
How is your current Uverse experience? I am moving shortly and hoping to land in a spot with Uverse access….Do you know which parts of Indy have access? I am possibly moving over to the 42nd and College area, wondering it Uverse is there yet…

I’m still enjoying U-verse. My biggest complaint at this point is only being able to take advantage of a single HDTV stream. For instance, I can’t record an HD show and watch a different HD show. However, having the ability to record 4 show simultaneously kind of makes up for that. Plus, dual HD stream capability should be coming sometime 3Q this year along with some other interesting features like whole-home DVR.
You should be able to call U-verse and get that second HD stream. I did in the Cleveland, Ohio area and whap, bam boom…DONE…that was my big complaint along with whole home DVR. Once the WHDVR is in, this is the perfect system for my needs. I also switched recently to U-verse Voice, their VOIP service. Blows other VOIP services away.
WE HERE ALL KNW HOW GREAT UVERSE IS. I CAN AGREE BECAUSE I INSTALL IT. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK ALL POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS TO HELP ME OUT. WE’RE HAVING A CONTEST IN MY OFFICE ON WHO CAN REFER THE MOST UVERSE CUSTOMERS AND RIGHT NOW IM COMING IN DEAD LAST. SO FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES TO SEE THE UNDERDOG WIN HERE’S MY REFERRAL CODE: NM9205 AND HERE’S THE NUMBER 1.877.827.5288. GOD BLESS.. & UVERSE 4 LIFE!!!!
