google-chuck-norris

Google isn’t the most powerful player in town. They’re afraid of someone. They have to look over their shoulder. But who is it? Microsoft? Nope! Yahoo! Nope. The government? No again.

It’s Chuck Norris! They don’t even search for him anymore because they know he’s always there anyway, right behind them. Always waiting. Always watching.

Don’t believe me? Just enter “find Chuck Norris” in Google and select “I’m Feeling Lucky”

ABC-oprah-big-give

I just caught the end of an episode of Oprah’s Big Give on ABC. They’re doing lots of great things and really initiating some change in people’s lives.

One question presented itself in my mind tonight though.

How much money are they wasting by flying the contestants back to the Big Give HQ in Chicago or New York after each challenge?

I realize that compared to everything else they’re doing it’s probably not much. But I’m sure there are plenty of organizations or families that could really be impacted by the cost of all that airfare back and forth.

dogpile-april-fools-day

Dogpile has a little fun promotion going on right now where you can send a little bit of a humorous spoof e-mail to your friends on April Fool’s Day this year.

As you can see from the graphic above there are a number of different messages and jokes you can send with their tool.

Another nice little benefit of this fun little promotion is that you can go there now and setup the messages to be delivered for you on April Fool’s Day!

dogpile-dogJust look for the doggy to dig up some April Fool’s Day fun.

If you’re not familiar with Dogpile, it’s a search engine that piles all the results of Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft Live Search, and Ask for the results.

Go uncover more from your own search results by using Dogpile.

indiana-jones-online-shopping

In the event that you’re a big Harrison Ford or Indiana Jones follower, now you can get all your cool Indiana Jones gear at the Indiana Jones Store online with 10% off now.

After having seen two recent movies starring Shia LaBeouf (Disturbia and Transformers), I can honestly say I may be as interested in seeing him play whatever role it is he’ll be doing as I am seeing Harrison Ford act as the title character.

rejection-hotline

I never was much into the bar scene of meeting and dating people, but if I had been hopefully I wouldn’t have been the type of guy that would have necessitated having the Rejection Hotline service used on me.

The dating scene is full of people who can’t take a hint or can’t take “no” for an answer (and many who apparently can’t take showers, can’t brush their teeth, or can’t seem to go out in social settings without awkwardly embarrassing themselves).

The Rejection Hotline exists as a simple alternative to uncomfortable situations and it is a public service to both the rejector and to the rejectee!

Has anyone out there used Rejection Hotline or something similar? Did it work? How bad of a loser was the guy/gal?

Okay, I’m really getting more and more irritated that this update is not working. I’ve tried everything that’s been mentioned by people in comments. I’ve also researched Microsoft’s Knowledge Base articles to look for solutions as well.

Today, again… I tried to download and install the update manually. First I downloaded the 218MB Office 2007 SP1 update file and tried to install it.

Then I tried to install it again in safe-mode with no luck.

Then I thought maybe I needed to try and install the SP1 Language update first. So I downloaded the 37MB file for that and tried.

I’ve been looking here, here and here, oh yeah, and here. The last one told me to run the Windows Install 3.1 program so I downloaded that and installed it and tried again.

Then I saw…

I’m now beyond irritated!

Use Systeminfo to Learn More

systeminfo

I just read a little tip from the WXPNews e-mail newsletter about how to use systeminfo to get details about your system all in one place quickly.

Want to know how long your XP computer has been running without a reboot? It’s easy enough. Just follow these instructions:

  1. Click Start | Run and type cmd to open a command window
  2. At the command prompt, type systeminfo
  3. Scroll down to the line that says “System Up Time”

You’ll also find lots of other useful information here, such as your BIOS version, the location of your page file and how many hot fixes you have installed. Give it a look.

Sure you could find this information in other places through a nice, clean, friendly UI, but when you just need the details quick and dirty this may come in handy. In addition, you get some information that you normally wouldn’t get in other places like the System Up Time mentioned above and your original install date.

Domain Name Double Entendre

oops-urls

I uncovered this little gem of a post while reading an Issue #319 of the WXPNews e-mail newsletter. Their newsletter always includes a list of their “Fav Links”. This week one was included of another blog post that listed some domain names that have some unintended meanings if you rearrange the break in words of the domain.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

  1. Looking for a new pen? Try Pen Island at www.penisland.com
  2. Looking for some power in Italy? Try www.powergenitalia.com
  3. Looking for some new art work fast? Try www.speedofart.com

Visit the original website for the other 7, which are a riot too.

Do you know of any other domain name mishaps? Share them with us in the comments.

Go Experience the Mac Book Air

What is it in me that creates the urge to schedule an appointment and just be really weird with the questions I ask. You know, odd stuff I want to do with the computer. Keep asking if I can play CD’s on it while I’m on the plane. Show-up with a bunch of peripherals that I always have to plug-in.

I’m not anti-Mac, I’m just anti-attitude that Mac’s are God’s gift to computing and never crash and nothing ever goes wrong and the world of computing is forever indebted to Apple for all that they produce.

However, they do produce some funny commercials!

Cool! Thanks to Arieanna at b5 she’s let me know how to do a reversed ordered list in HTML.

Originally she thought <ol reversed> would work, but it didn’t.

Oh well, this is still cool.

A friend of mine, Jeff Stanger is an author and blogger, and he just shared this YouTube video on his website. I have never heard of this event happening before so it was really interesting to see this video of the footage.

Jeff is a really humorous writer and keeps his focus normally around sports and even more specifically baseball. If you’ve got interests in either of those two things, you may want to check-out his books Trolley Dodgers (a story about the residents of Bloomington, IN trying to buy the LA Dodgers) and Seven Dead Flamingos (a sequel to Trolley Dodgers stemming from his press experience at the College World Series).

open-tasks-thumbnail-view

I always forget this feature is available to me. Perhaps even more than that, I’m still somewhat startled every time I accidentally click my scroll-wheel to make the view appear.

Anyone out there actively use this view? What do you think? Isn’t it a lot like the big rage that Apple users are excited about in Leopard?

If I’m switching programs I just use the ALT+TAB function to quickly scroll through. I used to have a feature available (I think it was in TweakUI) that showed me a thumbnail of the application when I used ALT+TAB. I’m guessing a Windows update got rid of that.
