Back in April of this year I wrote about our small group at church starting a new study with John Eldredge’s “Epic” Bible study. It was a great study and after we finished it I wrote a short review about it on Amazon.com’s product page for the book.
I received an e-mail tonight from someone that was inspired by my review to turn-around and write a book telling the Epic story in a method that was easily understood by children.
Hi Jason–
You don’t know me, but I saw your Amazon review of Epic, and I loved what you said about the guy in your Sunday School class saying that he would have “gotten this” if it had been explained to him as a kid. I totally agree.
So much so, that I’ve been trying to write a kids epic for the last five years. I finally found the way to do it this summer and got permission from Eldredge himself to “go for it.” Anyway…it’s all done now and on Amazon. So I thought I’d let you know. If you are curious and want to see inside it, you can see the whole thing on www.Lulu.com/q3jcfinn
Blessings,
Jan
I can’t take the credit for this one at all. I was actually quoting another member of our group that made that comment and it really stuck with me. Our group has done lots of growing since that study and I love every member of the group. I look forward to more and more weekly meetings with each other and more one-on-one opportunities to continue sharing life with each other.
You can read all the details about “Our Story”, the children’s version of Epic that’s written by Jan after the jump below:
Dear Parents and Ministry Leaders,
After reading John Eldredge?s Epic, one Amazon reviewer wrote:
?I wish I?d grown up knowing this! If someone had explained this to me as a child, I would have gotten it?it would have changed everything.?
It was from this echo of my own heart, that I first began to try to put child-sized words to the grand themes of Christianity. I wanted my own children to be able to understand the larger context of their lives. I wanted them to grow up knowing they lived in a battle set in the midst of a great love story. I wanted them to see all of the stories they were learning from the Bible with a Grand Story view.
OUR STORY ?Good News for Kids? tells the Epic Story. Following the outline from Epic (used with permission), OUR STORY helps children know their place in the Grand Story. Its bright colors with simple to understand pictures tells the story of the conflict between two kingdoms; shows what happened at the Fall and portrays the new heart now available to mankind through Christ. It tells the whole story from the Trinity in perfect Fellowship, to our happily ever after.
Big people concepts, tailor made for kids. Great for children ages 6-10.
